Professor Urabe Jotaro and Tohoku University graduate student Suzuki Sekimichi conducted a survey of zooplankton at Lake Sugawara and other places. They threw a plankton net into the pond and collected the samples. They identified the species under a microscope, cultured them at the Institute of Freshwater Biology, and prepared test specimens for the chemostat experiment.
