Abstract: Freshwater fish that live in rivers and lakes use different environments depending on the situation. For example, it is well known that some freshwater fish migrate to small rivers and canals with slow, warm currents that adult fish do not normally use to spawn during the breeding season. Here, we present the life cycle of crucian carp in Lake Suwa, its tributaries, and rice paddy canals. In Lake Suwa, habitat connectivity and fragmentation due to rice cultivation in the surrounding paddy fields is closely related to fish movement and dispersal patterns. It is also important for fish to be able to move easily between the main stream, tributaries and canals in rivers. We would like to present the direction of future research and investigation efforts and reflect with the audience on the nature of the familiar Chikuma River.

The lecture will be broadcast on UCV Ueda Cable Vision.
