Suwagata Community Center Visits Freshwater Biology Institute and Holds Study Session
On September 25, 2022, 24 people from the Suwagata Community Center visited us and held a study session. The Suwagata Neighborhood Association is compiling the history of Suwagata and has a deep interest in the history of the area. The Multimedia Center showed the 1965 archive “Decreasing Fish Species of the Chikuma River,” and Director Hiroshi Hakoyama gave a lecture on the efforts of the Institute of Freshwater Biology. The narration in the 1965 archive said, “It is important to make the river a place where not only sweetfish but also dace and minnows can live,” and this is absolutely true. The nature of the Chikuma River, which is even more severe than it was then, must be preserved.
