Ueda Nishi High School Biology Club held an activity at the Institute of Freshwater Biology
On October 24, 2022, three members of the Ueda Nishi High School Biology Club conducted a water quality survey at the Institute of Freshwater Biology. They also collected aquatic organisms (duckfish, motsugo, striped shrimp, numa shrimp, dragonfly nymphs, shijimi, etc.) for breeding and observation by the biology club. They also considered the control of bullfrogs, which are a designated invasive species. Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama explained the importance and fun of studying the ecology of bullfrogs, as well as the DeLury method, which is one of the population estimation methods. This will be useful for the Biology Club’s future investigations.
