Assistant Professor Sakie Kodama attends SEAFDEC meeting in Indonesia.
Nagano University and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) have held a comprehensive cooperation agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) in research and education since July 2019. Under this agreement, Assistant Professor Sakie Kodama of the Institute for Freshwater Biology (IFB) was invited to attend the SEAFDEC Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department meeting in Indonesia on December 20, 2022. Assistant Professor Sakie Kodama evaluated SEAFDEC’s Japan Trust Fund research program. SEAFDEC is vigorously pursuing two major themes in this research program: (1) sustainable utilization of eels in the Southeast Asian region, and (2) management schemes of inland fisheries in the Southeast Asian region. Associate Professor Kodama also gave a lecture on the latest findings of IFB’s project on the Chikuma and Shinano River systems, highlighting the utility of techniques such as environmental DNA for fisheries research. Nagano University, led by IFB, will continue to deepen international research and educational collaboration with SEAFDEC member countries to enhance and revitalize the activities of all parties.
