First Glass Eel Migration Research Meeting and Environmental DNA Survey Held
On the morning of Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the first meeting of the research group for the glass eel migration and environmental DNA survey conducted by the Fisheries Resources Survey and Evaluation Promotion Project (Eel Unit, commissioned) was held. This is part of a research project led by Professor Hakoyama of the Institute of Freshwater Biology, Nagano University, involving 39 experimental and research institutions. Kyushu University, Wakayama Prefecture, Miyazaki Prefectural Inland Waters Promotion Center, Kagoshima Prefectural Fisheries Technology Development Center and Chiba Prefectural Fisheries Research Center, which are in charge of glass eel migration and environmental DNA survey, met to discuss this year’s survey structure and the newly launched environmental DNA survey. The aim of this year’s survey is to investigate whether there is a good correlation between the number of glass eel migrations by direct capture and the amount of environmental DNA.
