Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama and others visit the Iio Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University, to discuss the development of satellite tags!
On December 12, 2023, Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama of the Institute of Freshwater Biology visited the laboratory of Associate Professor Shoichiro Iio, Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University, to discuss the improvement of satellite tags and to receive a new device in connection with research on downstream eel tracking using satellite tags, which is being conducted as part of the Fisheries Agency’s International Resource Eel Unit subsidized research project. At the Iio Laboratory, we are working on research focused on small hydroelectric power generation, and in the joint research we are responsible for the design of the satellite tags. This new device will be used immediately in this year’s satellite tags. The Iio lab has an excellent facility for running water aquariums, and they are using these facilities and numerical calculations to design the satellite tags.
The research on tracking eels using satellite tags is being conducted as a sponsored research project of the Fisheries Agency’s International Eel Resource Unit, led by the Institute of Freshwater Biology of Nagano University, in cooperation with the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute of the University of Tokyo, Kyushu University, Shinshu University, Miyazaki Prefecture, Kumamoto Prefecture, Little Leonardo and the FRA.
