Institute of Freshwater Biology Research Presented at 71st Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of Japan!
Postdoctoral researcher Alessandra Cera from the Institute of Freshwater Biology and Mihiro Shirai (from April, Nagano University), who conducted research at the Institute of Freshwater Biology, participated in the 71st Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of Japan, held at Yokohama National University from March 16-21, 2024. Cera, a postdoctoral researcher, presented an online poster on the results of her research in the Institute’s waterways, which showed that biofilms, a thin layer of microorganisms that forms on the surface of rocks in water, change with the seasons. Shirai also presented a poster, both online and on-site, on a method for estimating the total population of minnows in a pond on the National Institute of Freshwater Science grounds, called the removal method, which uses traps to sample minnows. This was the first time since 2019 that the conference, including the on-site portion, was held, and it was well attended and seemed to have lively discussions.
