Associate Professor Kodama Attends Statistical Workshop SQuID for Individual Difference Modeling at Hokkaido University!
Associate Professor Kodama participated in the statistical workshop SQuID for individual difference modeling held at Hokkaido University for four days from March 18-21, 2024. SQuID stands for Statistical Quantification of Individual Differences and is a workshop held around the world by international faculty working as behavioral ecologists/evolutionary biologists. Phenotypic traits have hierarchical variation and vary between populations, between individuals within a population, and within individuals, but a hierarchical structure similar to many biological phenomena is obtained. The goal of this workshop is to learn how statistical (mixed-effects) models work with such hierarchical data using simulations, providing new perspectives on biological processes and suggesting more insightful research designs and analyses. Most of the workshop participants, both faculty and students, were from overseas, making it an international and stimulating learning session. On the third day, there was a poster session where Associate Professor Kodama presented his research on the continuity of river structures and fish.
