International Eel Task Team Workshop Held!
On April 19, 2024, The 2nd Online Workshop of Eel Task Teams: Estimating demography from long-term time series data and tracking spawning migrations of eel species was held online. This workshop was organized by Eel Task Teams 1 & 2 (Leaders: 1 Leanne Faulks, 2 Hiroshi Hakoyama), a research organization of scientists formed under the Informal Consultation on International Eel Resource Conservation and Management (hereinafter referred to as the Informal Consultation) organized by Japan, China, Chinese Taipei and Korea, with the aim of collaborating with scientists in Northeast Asia to collect and organize long-term fishery time-series data on Japanese eels, consider eDNA surveys, and exchange, analyze and evaluate information on spawning migration tracking technology using satellite tags. Scientists from Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Fiji attended the workshop and there were lively presentations and discussions. The activities of the Eel Task Teams will be reported at the Eel Scientific Meeting in June.
