IFB

As part of the Japanese Government Trust Fund Program “Supporting Artisanal Fisheries and Women’s Participation in Fisheries in Southeast Asia and Development of Inland Fisheries Research Methods”, Dr. Muthmainnah from SEAFDEC (Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center) in Palembang, Indonesia, visited the Institute of Freshwater Biology for a one-day training on July 29-24. After attending lectures on freshwater biology and fisheries, Muthmainnah actually tagged live eels in a tag development training session that is part of the fisheries agency’s eel research project.

SEAFDEC and Nagano University (Freshwater Research Institute) have signed a cooperation agreement on scientific education, and this trainee intake is part of the agreement. This internship program not only enhances the skills and qualifications of the trainees, but also strengthens the network of researchers and engineers involved in the fisheries industry in Japan and the ASEAN region, and contributes to promoting women’s participation in the industry.
