Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama Attends 2nd "Lake Nojiri Waterside Creature Observation Event" as Special Guest!
On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the 2nd “Lake Nojiri Waterside Creature Observation Event” was held on the beach in front of the Green Sports Club (GSC) on the shore of Lake Nojiri, hosted by Masaru Tanaka (Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University) and others, with Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama participating as a special guest. Dozens of participants learned about the aquatic life of Lake Nojiri by identifying bass and goby fish, crayfish, striped shrimp, and giant snailfish collected by Izumi Kinoshita (Professor Emeritus, Kochi University) and Shinji Fujita (former researcher, West Japan Science and Technology Research Institute), and also enjoyed playing in the water. Japanese eels released in Lake Nojiri are known to grow large, and Professor Hakoyama spoke about the migration of Japanese eels and tracking research using satellite tags under the title “Investigating the Mysteries of Japanese Eels - A Journey from Lake Nojiri to the “Spawning Grounds”? He also brought a black crocodile that is kept for experiments at the Institute of Freshwater Biology and made it available for participants to observe.
