Prof. Hakoyama Participates in FAO Expert Advisory Panel on CITES Proposals
From July 7 to 11, 2025, Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama of the Institute for Freshwater Biology participated in the FAO Expert Advisory Panel on CITES listing proposals, held at the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Expert Advisory Panel, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), reviewed proposals for listing commercially exploited aquatic species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The panel provided scientific and technical assessments to assist over 180 CITES Parties in preparing for the upcoming 20th Conference of the Parties (CoP20), to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Professor Hakoyama contributed as an independent expert, providing analysis on population viability and extinction risk assessment for proposed species.
