The Fourth Nojiri Lake Waterside Organism Observation Event Was Held

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, the Fourth Nojiri Lake Waterside Organism Observation Event was held on the beach in front of the Green Sports Club at Lake Nojiri. The event was organized by the executive committee chaired by Professor Emeritus Masaru Tanaka of Kyoto University and was titled “Encountering Japanese Eels along the Waterside of Lake Nojiri.”

During the event, a yellow eel was found in an ishikura basket that had been installed the previous year, giving participants an opportunity to observe a Japanese eel from Lake Nojiri up close.

Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama of the Institute of Freshwater Biology introduced research on the ecology and fisheries management of the Japanese eel.
